Overview
As part of their corporate databases and systems upgrade initiatives, Engineers Australia were looking to create an online enrolment and assessment system for Chartered Status - thereby to effectively replace their current offline systems and processes.
Effectively the brief was to design and architect the User Interface (front end) for the enrolment and assessment system.
We also worked with Engineers Australia's technology partner (Red Rock) to ensure that the front end UI is effectively integrated with back end databases and systems.

MY ROLE
User Experience Designer
Align & Understand
In order to gain an understanding of the Chartered Status, its main business and user requirements as well as the current processes and business rules, I worked closely with the lead Business Analyst assigned to the project from Engineers Australia.
I reviewed the existing Chartered Status pathways, requirements, and artefacts. This exercise helped me understand the key processes, touchpoints and systems governing the Chartered Status.

Define
Following the review of the existing processes, we essentially needed to map and detail out two systems:
-
The "Enrolment" system enables the applicant to submit and pay (where applicable) for the Chartered Status application.
-
The "Assessment" system enable system users (i.e. Co-ordinators, Assessors, and Administrators) to administer and assess new applications and ongoing continuous professional development (CPD) module submissions by the applicant.
eChartered Enrolment System
Working with the Business Analyst, I created the ideal user screen flows for the Enrolment process covering the different pathways an applicant can choose.
In collaboration with Red Rock, I extended the screen flows to system flows in order to highlight data flows between the browser UI, the middleware, and the back end databases.
Based on the screen and system flows, I created wireframes covering the different applicant states and pathways for the Enrolment process - these were then verified and validated with the key stakeholders.
Visual designs of the key screen elements and modules were created and integrated to the Drupal UI. Thereafter, internal end-to-end testing of the enrolment process was carried out using test data covering various applicant types and pathways.

eChartered Assessment System
Following the successful implementation of the Enrolment system, its design and logic needed to be extended to the Assessment system.
Working with the Business Analyst and Red Rock, I created the user screen flows as well as system flows for the Assessment process covering the different tasks for system users as well as applicants.
Based on the screen and system flows, I created wireframes covering the different applicant as well as system user tasks for the Assessment process - these were then verified and validated with the key stakeholders.
Visual designs of the key screen elements and modules were created and integrated to the Drupal UI.
